Ways of Breaking

Ways of Breaking combines poetry and illustration with modes of printing and book-binding that mimic the experience of breaking as both an imagined and real sensation. The project invites the viewer/reader into the space of a narrator who is in the process of "breaking," a space where illustration, poetry, and their interactions with paper rely on each other. It responds to the process of falling in love, how the deepening of this process continues even after it's been assaulted. This includes two artist's books, one made up of letterpressed type, the other, a box of prints, and a website, which contains project documentation and recorded readings of the poems.
