The idea of sound behaving as a language and the ways in which sound can be synthesized into a visual form, is the idea that sparked the birth of the magazine Synesthesia. “Synesthesia” is the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body. This idea of combining senses was addressed in the designed editorial choices made for this magazine. After thorough exploration and research I was able to find ways in which there can be a cross between the processes in music and design.
The shape of sound issue seeks to discuss and understand music through a visual language. This quarterly publication combines interviews with artists and articles that discuss this overlap between the two industries. The fourfortyhertz issue plans to accomplish an in depth discussion about how studio spaces and sound equipment is designed, with a series of interviews with craftsmen and sound engineers.
