Imaginary Cities is based on Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities. I was inspired by individual cities that he created and from that, I came up with two imaginary cities, ‘Digital City’ and ‘Trapped City,’ using various materials. For ‘Digital City,’ six images combined with text are held in individual glass frames. These images illustrate what happens someone enters the city, the city starts to process, and how it gets overwhelmed. ‘Trapped City’ is another interpretation of one of the cities from Calvino’s book: Zobiedie. This is a city where people are all trapped pursuing the women of their dreams. From that, text compressed all together to form a city illustrates the concept of ‘trapped.’ This city is shaped withonly typefaces and formed in three dimensions. These two imaginary cities, illustrated in conceptual ways, are an interpretation of Calvino’s book.
