As I grew up I understood that my parents weren’t ‘American’ but I didn’t think of asking why they were here and much less how they got here. When we watch the news or hear about Illegal Immigration, the people in these stories are always anonymous. The media makes them seem evil, and as if they’re trespassing. So who are they? They are my mom, my dad, and my uncle. People see them as intruders, but me, I see them as modern day heroes. They did whatever it took for a better future. If my parents hadn’t been brave or even strong enough, I wouldn’t be here, I wouldn’t have the life I was given. These people have extraordinary stories to tell, and they have kept quiet for a very long time. My project includes both a documentary video and a book.
