Identity is made up of personal perception, external recognition, and the potential for transformation. While the idea of one's place in society exists throughout history, its formation remains elusive. This project attempts to shine a light on the complex and slightly absurd societal systems through which identities are formed.
Utilizing William James’ concept of the three selves, this project presents three respective publications; Material Self, Social Self, and Spiritual Self. Each of these publications provokes the viewer to reconsider the systems in which they exist and the ways they interact. Through lighthearted subversion, Three Selves creates an understanding of identity that is plastic and shaped by the perspective that defines it.
