Arab life is one filled with trauma but it is beautiful and resilient all the same. Historically, Arabs have gone through extreme turmoil for almost a century, affecting quality of life and mental health. Through it all, remaining strong, resilient, and maintaining our beautiful culture and bond, even while the world views us through preconceived notions as savages and terrorists. With my thesis, I hope to leave a mark and make the smallest difference by conveying the complex layers of Arab identity. I have created a book of personal elements and conversations with individuals from different walks of life highlighting loves, fears, trauma, and attachment in regards to the region and culture. Through this study, I implore you to understand that “Arabs are not some special species that become more immune to tragedy the more they experience it. They are humans who are suffering at levels almost inconceivable” while still managing to resiliently uphold the small joys of life. This work is an attempt at presenting it all; the good, the bad, and everything in between.
