Interconnection and the Senses is a poetic exploration of human perception through a layered artist book of translucent and tactile illustrations. Paper, vellum, iridescent vinyl, colored pencil illustrations, cotton and mohair thread coalesce harmoniously, creating a narrative tapestry that awakens the senses.
My interest in human perception began with touch. Through studying tactility, I became aware of the fascinating network that connects the senses. Studying one sense in isolation reveals that they are inherently linked. During my research process, I came across Diane Ackerman’s A Natural History of the Senses. Ackerman expounds the world of senses in a way that felt expansive and exciting to me, helping to counter the clinical nature of how I had been taught anatomy. Her words inspired me to visualize each sense and their connections, which helped me to discover my own fascination with inner landscapes.
My thesis project endeavors to evoke a profound sense of wonder and introspection, inviting viewers to embark on a journey through the labyrinth of human perception.
