In all acts of creativity, we come to face the blank page. Whether it be a blank notebook, canvas or screen, it serves as a starting place. While there appears to be nothing in front of us, the open space asks us to look inward on a deeper level. This emptiness serves as a platform for imagination and holds the promise of potential. musician John Cage once said that “there is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear.” This is what Blank Magazine aims to do: to illuminate the value of blankness in all acts of creativity. The publication considers diverse perspectives of what blankness might or could be and finds ways to investigate and preserve it.
Through stories on art, architecture, psychology, and design, Blank Magazine looks at various ways of interpreting and understanding blankness. Beginning with the first issue, it centers on the idea of potential. It questions the ways in which blankness holds the potential to reveal meaning to us, and provides the tools to apply blankness to our every day lives.
