In a time when individuals are constantly connected, our online interfaces have influenced the way we function offline as individuals and as a society, resulting in a societal change in our physical and mental reality. This connectivity has created a third space in which we function between all mediums of technology and reality, creating an illusion of multitasking. By investigating the effects our digital communication platforms have on our mental and physical realities, I will understand the impact that this constant barrage of communication has on our brain activity. I recreated this experience through the design of the Third Space app. The design uses the attention of the user to their full capacity by mimicking the attention our timelines and news outlets require and disorienting the user as they attempt to multitask. This third space realm creates an auto pilot thought process which begs the question, where do we go and what do we do when we go into the third space? Third Space ultimately sparks the question, what effect has our technology had on our interactions with the physical world?
