Offline stems from trying to understand the behavioral patterns of people and their interaction with design and technology. Our phones have become an intrinsic part of everyday life going beyond listening to music, shutting everything out in a packed subway, taking Snapchat selfies at a social setting, scrolling through Facebook at meetings or editing Instagram photos during class. The phone is no longer just a means of communication as it has now evolved to play a large role in our emotional state. As a result, we expect more from technology and less from each other.
The aim of Offline is to raise awareness of the time we spend on social media and to help us translating it into a more positive and productive experience. It promotes productivity by expanding the boundaries of interactions with smartphone technology. Rather than taking away from genuine human to human interaction, it helps us rethink the way we use our smartphones. Offline connects like-minded people who are interested in learning new skills and brings them a step closer to achieving their goals by sharing the same self-defined milestones. By doing so, this app uses smartphone technology to bring us closer to one another, rather than isolating ourselves behind those screens.
