Human realities exist simultaneously through juxtaposition and duplication: as one person feels joy in one hemisphere, another is hoping to see tomorrow. What happens if our emotions weren’t just feelings inside our heads or words written on a piece of paper, but computer generated visual imagery? We live in a world surrounded by digital technology, but to what extent are we emotionally connected with machines? Ai Diaries brings together a collection of poems and journal entries anonymously written by humans in response to two questions; “How do you feel at this moment?” and “How do you feel today?” Through the use of artificial intelligence the emotional written responses were turned into abstract imagery. When the Ai generated images are juxtaposed with black and white collages of the art, we’re left to wonder whether machines can truly understand and depict the inner thoughts of a human being. Ai Diaries encourages dialogue and exploration of the divergence of human emotions through the lens of a machine, while pushing us consider how deep our personal interconnections are with digital technology.
