In our lives today we have so much freedom to be who we want to be. But in our culture we are obsessed with having more. This has led to our current digital age, an age of endless possibilities, endless personas, and endless realities. It's no wonder living in the “real world” can leave some bored. A life that’s purely online can cure loneliness, you can be whoever and whatever you please.
MirrorLife is a world where you can live out your perfect fantasy. We do not always have the opportunity to live out our dreams, or maybe they’re just too much work. In the two videos I’ve created by using IMVU, you can pretend you are someone you wish you were. You may choose your path on the website, one is a star symbol and one a baby. Once you choose, your bracelet will be stamped and you may enter your story. The paths reflect the binary and toxic culture that our current media portrays. You can become the celebrity you’ve always wanted to be, or be happily married with children. The aesthetic of the videos will transport you back to 2004, the initial release of the gaming platform, as you watch a collage of clips from pregnant celebrities, AI/real life impersonators, and robot models. Whatever dream that is not coming true in real life, can come true in a second life. MirrorLife is both the virus and the cure to our digital age and consumer culture.
