When we become used to being in a space, we often fall into a routine and stop thinking about how we experience that space. Interspace – The Space Between What We Know is a series of projects that challenge people to see and understand the spaces they frequently occupy from a different perspective. Do we truly understand their full potential? How were they designed to function? How can we change the way we experience these spaces? These projects target individuals who are not only interested in understanding their relationship to a space, but who are also interested in being mindful of a space. By being present and reflecting on the spaces we occupy, thoughtfully and non-judgmentally, we are practicing a form of mindfulness. Due to recent events, participants were unable to be physically present in their selected spaces for certain projects. Therefore, those projects instead shifted to reference memories of their selected spaces. Nevertheless, the goals for all the projects remained the same. By reflecting on our memories and our innate understanding of the spaces we have occupied, we are able to mindfully reflect on them to reveal things we did not notice before.
