Coastal ecosystems are crucial for our wellbeing. They provide fisheries, livelihood, and erosion protection. They consume more CO2 than forests and they are a core element for the pharmaceutical industry. Their benefits are countless. However, they are fragile, and human activities such as habitat destruction, over-harvesting, and pollution are eroding them away. Nommo is an education service, created to avert these negative human impacts on fragile coastal ecosystems. Nommo’s service is tailored for families and children with an insightful, and encouraging voice through signage, storybooks and activity books. Signage of Nommo is designed to create accessible communication across the barriers of culture and language. It consists of a set of signs projecting right and wrong behaviors on coastal environments, as a guidance tool. A Whale Set Sail is a storybook for engaging families and their 3-6 year olds in topics of importance such as marine pollution, and human impacts on environment. The storyline implements the impact of humans onto a whale, drawing parallels, in order for kids to have an easier conversation on the topic. Promising Stories From A Changing World is both a storybook and an activity book, telling inspiring stories about environmental conservation and encouraging 6–12 year olds to create their unique stories about the protection of coastlines. Each piece has a unique approach, and through them, Nommo intends to create an insightful, motivated and active community around the threatened coastal ecosystems. Nommo believes in the power of collaboration and educates families and children to guard the future of our world.
