The early 2000s represents a poignant time in fashion and celebrity pop culture. The new millennium brought new styles and trends to the forefront of pop culture and fashion. Mini-mini skirts, low-rise jeans, and Juicy Couture were all the rage. Remember how you used to quote Mean Girls word for word while talking your best friend on your Nokia cell phone? You wore low-rise jeans with tiny t-shirts and Von Dutch trucker hats and spent your afternoons watching trashy, yet entertaining reality television and learning the dance moves to "I'm a Slave 4 U" by the early 2000s icon, Britney. To be quite honest, I still quote Mean Girls and try to copy Britney Spears routines, but I look back on those days with equal parts dreamy nostalgia and sheer envy. Nostalgia for the entertainment and outrageous fashions and envy because these things will never happen again. The design of the book stems from the content itself. All colors come from the images. For example, the hot pink color of the Mean Girls Section directly comes from the sweater Lindsay Lohan wears in the photo. The typesetting is based on shapes found in the images. This was done in order to achieve a certain look and feel that evokes a sense of something playful, something reminiscent of the early 2000s. There is only one era known as the early 2000s and this book takes a trip down memory lane with all the best and worst things about coming of age in the aughts.
