As a consequence of strict censorship and cultural values in the Republic of China, sex continues to be a taboo subject. The consequence of avoiding the subject of sexuality leads to sex education in China — a topic that is almost non existent.
Wisdom Box is a machine learning driven sex ed app for teenagers from 15 to 20 years old. It comprises of three major features: a chat bot, a self guided learning portal, and a sharing forum. Wisdom Box addresses users questions around sexuality. It provides a private and safe platform for teenagers to ask hard questions they would normally not feel free to ask. It can also be used in last minute on the spot situations.
The learning portal allows users to engage in self-guided learning. It currently is made up of six levels: sex anatomy, puberty, pregnancy, abortion, STI, and sexual behavior. The idea is to gamify these chapters, which are locked until the user completes the previous one.
The interactive sharing forums provide the users an anonymized way to post concerns, share stories and ask other types of questions. Users know that they are not alone in this stage of change and can build an emotional support network. Wisdom Box hopes to start the changing how sexuality is viewed in modern Chinese society — to help people learn about important of sex education.
