Language is as cultural as it is fluid. We are constantly reinventing our vernacular. It is inherently human and as fast as translation technology is advancing, nothing can replace real human translation and interpretation for all those nuances and subtleties. But exactly how much meaning is lost if we relied solely on translation technology?
I Lost Translation aims to highlight the complexity of translations and importance of human interpretation by translating text through the 10 most spoken languages in the United States. Text will be translated using Google Translate from English to Spanish then Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Arabic, French, Korean, Russian, German, and then back to English to compare how much meaning gets lost along the way.
