Menstruation has been a taboo for many years. This project is initiated to create an environment where women can publicly speak about menstruation. In order to encourage people to open up and talk about periods, I have designed a period awareness campaign that allows women to embrace periods and break the ice between their own body and society. All about Period is an awareness campaign to raise funds for charity and inspire people to openly talk about periods.
Through this project, I am addressing issues like young girls being kept in the dark about menstruation, the false myths and taboos associated with periods, and the ill-influence of a patriarchal society on our culture. I am also trying to show how it should be unashamedly accepted by people of all genders and non-genders as a very natural part of life; not to be shrouded in secrecy.
In addition, this project focused on creating awareness through contextual design and strategic thinking by using campaign and survey as a medium. The social issue I chose to focus on for this project is something that many of my friends and I are dealing with on a regular basis such as paying taxes on tampons. These are not luxury items but a real necessity. In each deliverable, I addressed specific issues and revealed the truth of the menstruation.
