Tasting plays a significant role in Chinese tea culture. Chinese people believe that tasting tea is not only a way to show respect and friendship, but also provides an emotional satisfaction that allows people to enjoy the tea itself. There are six kinds of Chinese tea: yellow tea, oolong tea, green tea, dark tea, black tea, and white tea. Each variety tastes different and has different benefits for health, helping manage stress, with weight loss, and by lowering the risk of diabetes and more, that are worthwhile for people to discover.
Chanation is a teashop that brings tea lovers together and allows them to create their own cups of tea and share their recipes with others. The entire project applies soft colors and a legible sans serif typeface in order to be accessible and approachable to everyone who’s interested in tea tasting. Through Chanation, I aim to make Chinese tea culture stand out and expand the tea community by introducing and promoting different kinds of Chinese tea to audiences who are not familiar with Chinese tea, especially young people in the western hemisphere. I want to encourage more young people to not only try, but also enjoy, drinking and learning about different types of Chinese tea in an engaging way.
