It will most likely not come as a shock that human beings love to escape reality. As we have witnessed over the past few years, when days grow dark and threats loom people take a break from reality and turn to entertainment or fantasy for comfort and relief.
For some it might be as simple as a song, others may turn to drugs, still others turn to religion. The issue is not how one escapes but rather the degree to which they are escaping. Instead of learning how to adapt to the environment people find themselves in, they tuck tail and dive head first down a rabbit hole of relief.
The archive website I have designed and curated over the last six months seeks to display the range and degrees of escapism which people subscribe to. Through the use of early website design aesthetics I aim to guide the viewer through an explorative experience. Juxtaposing the simple fantasy tv show you watch before bedtime to the cult which sought to leave Earth in a UFO. Escapism is something which happens but is never acknowledged. In displaying the endless accounts of ways people escape in one central location, I hope to wake people up to the plague of ignoring reality.
