“History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce.” —Karl Marx
My thesis consists of a compilation of contemporary writing that continues the long, ongoing conversation of decolonization in a few of its aspects and how excerpts of this conversation are lost in translation. To visualize this disruption, I chose pull quotes that in my opinion hold the essence of the message yet bring it out of context. Straining them further out of their context, I physically disrupt the pages by the means of marking, scratching, and creasing. Despite the rupture of the pages, I believe is important to be presented with these ideas today when our societies are, relatively, more open to the idea of reform. Though the idea is not the act, this is a pivotal moment to read these manifestos and pick and choose from them the ideas that might help us in the future. History repeats itself, for better or for worse.
