We Shall Meet in a Place Where There Is No Darkness is an experimental, 16mm film exploring the complexities of home, displacement, and the psychological impacts of war, while highlighting the resilience that emerges in the face of such adversity. Drawing parallels to George Orwell’s 1984—a universe reflecting the author’s connections to Myanmar—the film captures the enduring, often overlooked trauma characterized by the forced dispersal of Burmese communities.
We harbor a quiet grief, one that we have adeptly learned to ignore.
Accompanied by an original score, the film translates unique character narratives into choreographic movements, each made whole with curated costuming and set design. Shot over two-days inside a Greenpoint production warehouse, the film is extended in print by a comprehensive process book, detailing historical research, preliminary design sketches informing its typographic system, and credits to the collaborative efforts essential to realizing the world on set.
