Learning Outcomes is a collection of nine projects responding to the nine learning outcomes outlined in the thesis syllabus, leveraging the constraints of the course as creative tools.
The project primarily explores the dubious relationship between instruction and design. Imposing further limitations on my work, I exclusively used the default system font, Arial, and repurposed content obtained through the New School. These guidelines provided a structure to push against.
Guided by the legacy of Fluxus and instructional art, the nine responses actively misinterpret, directly contradict, and exaggerate the language of the learning outcomes. In doing so, they reveal the ambiguity of academic language and the absurdity of articulating a creative process. However, this project is primarily concerned with solving problems while subverting expectations and can therefore be seen as more of a celebration than a condemnation of institutional systems. Through playful subversion, Learning Outcomes reveals how rigid constraints can serve as springboards for creative exploration while maintaining and embracing the structures of artistic institutions.
