This project, in collaboration with Senior Planet: Aging with Attitude, is centered on reimagining the promotional materials for the annual “Sensory Garden Design for Healings” event—a dedicated initiative to create therapeutic spaces for individuals with dementia. Recognizing that existing posters, brochures, and similar materials are often text-heavy and challenging for seniors to navigate, our goal is to transform these designs into visually accessible and engaging communications that speak directly to the target audience.
The new designs are rooted in a dual-focus strategy. Primarily, they aim to simplify complex information through the use of diverse illustrations, high-contrast color schemes, and geometric patterns that reduce cognitive load and facilitate easier comprehension. At the same time, contemporary design elements are integrated to capture the interest of younger audiences, creating an intergenerational appeal that not only informs but also invites dialogue across age groups.
A cornerstone of this project is the direct, hands-on engagement with the community at 305 West End Assisted Living. Through continuous collaboration with both patients and staff, every phase of the design process has been informed by real-life experiences and needs. Their input has been invaluable in shaping a visual language that is empathetic, clear, and aesthetically vibrant.
Ultimately, this project endeavors to promote the Sensory Garden event as a catalyst for healing and social connection, bridging generational divides and advancing a design philosophy that is both inclusive and innovative.
