QuestionMark.Zines is an experimental publishing project about current events that explores distribution in public spaces. This series of 13 Riso-printed zines, posters, keychains, and motion graphics were created weekly over the last six months with the intention of capturing a moment in time. Individually each piece stands alone covering topics like Hurricane Ian, Woman Life Freedom, registering to vote, wildfires, Kanye West, Halloween and over consumption, Midterm election, The New School Strike, mass shootings, personal feelings, and deep fake porn. The poster series and key chains make the project accessible by bringing people to the Instagram housing the zines. The social media feed also includes Riso-printed animated gifs that subvert iconic advertisements.
While each item stands alone, together this body of work comments on the overwhelming and saturated media landscape. By creating these pieces my intention was to make these topics more approachable and visually interesting. QuestionMark.Zines brings people together by helping to reflect on the chaotic nature of the world we’re living in expressed through application of the publication and art of making.
