Art Matters Magazine is a periodical publication that promotes art history education and literacy to middle and high school students from low-income/underserved communities and schools in NYC. These communities are disproportionately affected by a lack of resources, funding, and emphasis on art education, even though such knowledge is essential for a well-rounded education and understanding of the world.
These magazines, at the intersection of art and education, introduce a younger audience to important aspects of contemporary culture and history through the lens of art. Each monthly issue covers a different artist, art movement, or theme. They include curated photographs and artworks fitting the various periods and movements, information and resources appropriate to the young audience, and interactive games and activities to encourage reflection and critical thinking in ways only art can.
Subscribers to Art Matters receive a monthly box that includes a notepad, bookmark, tote bag, pens, keychains, and more stationary in addition to their magazines. They can also find additional information, videos, and interactive activities on the Art Matters website. Art Matters aims to make art history entertaining, interactive, and accessible to all.
