The goal of this project is to combine Chinese traditional beliefs and cutting-edge digital art, thus creating an immersive experience that showcases the grand and enigmatic statues of Chinese mythology. The project is influenced by the ‘Big Dumb Object’ style and seeks to create a semi-enclosed environment where the audience can explore four virtual spaces featuring. There are the Five Gods (gray rat, hedgehog, snake, weasel, fox) in the northern region, Mazu in the eastern region, Corpse Hunters in the southern region, and Totem Beliefs in the western region. In the final demonstration animation, the scene is combined to achieve the intersection of time and space.
The title "四面八方" meaning "in all directions," represents the harmonious coexistence of the world and natural creatures against the backdrop of polytheism. The project utilizes the latest parameters to create MASH VFX and add shader special effects to the virtual scenes. Virtual simulation of physical textures like cloth and fluid is used to combine the creature's UV skin and bone binding. This project aims to counter the notion that no one in the modern world cares about traditional culture. It seeks to show that the young generation is actively engaging with our myths and recording them in a modern way in this digital age.
