The lack of supportive communities and resources for LGBTQ+ youth can make the process of discovering their identity and place in society more challenging, particularly in the face of social pressures, prejudices, and discrimination. Through interviews and surveys with eight LGBTQ+ individuals, it became evident that there is a need for more accessible and inclusive communities, especially for teenagers.
While many existing queer apps are geared towards dating or may not be accessible to teenagers, BEYou is a social app specifically designed for LGBTQ+ teenagers that aims to provide a safe and supportive space for these youth to connect with peers, share experiences, and explore their identities. By offering a platform for daily interactions and friendships, BEYou has the potential to be a vital tool for LGBTQ+ youth, especially those who may not have access to inclusive education and resources in their local communities. Ultimately, BEYou and other similar LGBTQ+ social apps can play a crucial role in supporting the coming out and relationship exploration processes of LGBTQ+ youth, as well as facilitating a sense of belonging and community for these individuals.
By providing a space for LGBTQ+ teenagers to connect with others who share similar experiences and struggles, BEYou has the potential to not only make a difference in the lives of individual youth but also to create a more accepting and inclusive society for all.
