The Fear Of is a book created in reaction to a conversation I had with a friend who thought phobias did not really exist. This unfortunate and ignorant attitude is insensitive and stigmatizes those who, through no fault of their own, suffer from a phobia. Phobias are real and are very prevalent in society. It is important to understand that phobias are all around us and at times can be quite debilitating. Through this knowledge, I came up with the term ‘ignoratoraphobia.’ This word derives from the Latin term ignoratorum. It literally means the fear of the truth. Through this book I want people, like my friend, to understand that no one is immune from the anxiety caused by fear.
